L'IA avrà un impatto profondo su molti settori, compreso quello dei media. La disponibilità dell'IA e di tutti i suoi strumenti ci offre grandi opportunità, ma stiamo diventando sempre più e rapidamente consapevoli delle minacce che essa rappresenta per il nostro settore e per il nostro mondo. Le discussioni sull'etica, sui valori e sulla regolamentazione sono fondamentali. I sistemi di intelligenza artificiale non regolamentati possono presentare gravi difetti, amplificando ad esempio i pregiudizi della società e le fake news. I media del servizio pubblico europeo hanno un ruolo importante da svolgere nella crescente era dell'IA. Come possiamo guidare l'innovazione responsabile, salvaguardare la fiducia e contribuire a creare un ambiente di IA affidabile, diversificato e inclusivo che offra i migliori risultati per tutti i nostri spettatori? Il panel si propone di affrontare questo e molto altro, esplorando al contempo esempi pratici di come l'IA viene già utilizzata nelle redazioni giornalistiche europee e di futuri usi rivoluzionari.

Marinella Soldi was appointed Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Rai Radio Televisione Italiana, in July 2021. She is a member of the Board of Directors of EBU-European Broadcasting Union and Confindustria Radio Televisioni. She is currently also Non-executive Director for Nexi (digital payments), Ariston (Thermal Solutions) and Angelini (Health Innovation hub). From 2019 to 2022, she was non-executive Chairwoman of the Vodafone Italia Foundation, established in 2002 to promote social inclusion and to support young people and social enterprises, people with disabilities, health, and research. Marinella was CEO of Discovery Networks Southern Europe (Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France) for 10 years, until October 2018. Under her leadership Discovery Southern Europe completely transformed its business model from pure linear pay to a diversified multiplatform portfolio with innovative content. In Italy, Discovery has become a leading media company. Marinella was born in Italy and grew up in London. Before joining Discovery, she trained and worked for leading international brands in the technology and media sectors as a leadership coach for nine years. Prior to her career in coaching, she spent five years in senior roles at MTV Networks Europe, including SVP Strategic Development in London and GM, MTV Italy in Milan. She began her career at McKinsey Company working as a strategy consultant for three years in London and Italy.

Michelle Roverelli is Director of Member Relations and Communications at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). As part of the EBU's senior leadership team, Michelle is responsible for Member and Institutional Relations, supporting EBU Members in 56 countries and championing the values and needs of public service media in Europe and beyond. Michelle also leads marketing, communications and events for the organization. Rome native, Michelle joined the EBU in 2007 as a senior communications officer. She was appointed Head of Communications in 2011, and took over the responsibilities for marketing, branding and events in 2018 before being appointed Director. Prior to joining the EBU, she held senior roles in two global public affairs and communications consultancies in Brussels and Geneva. She also has extensive experience with some of the most influential lobbies in Brussels. Michelle is multi-lingual and graduated in Political Science from Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome; she also holds a Masters in EU Policy and Economics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

David Caswell is currently an Executive Product Manager at BBC News, focusing on new product initiatives, and was until recently the Executive Product Manager of BBC News Labs. He has previously led product management for data and machine learning at Tribune Publishing in Los Angeles and was the Director of Product Management for Content Understanding at Yahoo!. Caswell has also published extensively on computational, structured and automated forms of journalism, including as a Fellow at the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism.

Gino Alberico joined RAI Research Centre in 1988 where he has been involved in the launch of RAI's Digital TV services and in the deployment of multimedia and interactive television services. Currently the main activities at RAI R&D range from IP-based production technologies to Artificial Intelligence applications in the media domain, in addition to programme distribution over broadcasting and broadband platforms and accessibility services. He is also member of the EBU Technical Committee and Head of the Working Group in the HD Forum Italia Association, which deals with the editing of HD-Books, the technical specification of digital receivers for the Italian market.

Antonio Arcidiacono is Director of Technology & Innovation at the European Broadcasting Union. He has experience in conceiving, developing, and taking new products and services to market. Since joining the EBU in September 2018, Antonio has launched several initiatives designed to leverage the collective expertise and momentum of the EBU Membership for technology innovation, deliver key building blocks for the digital transformation of public service media, and strengthen collaboration between PSM, European policy initiatives, start-ups, and academic institutions. Two of Antonio's most recent initiatives are the 5G Media Action Group (5G-MAG) and EuroVOX. 5G-MAG currently counts over fifty members from the industry and aims to ensure future 5G standards are adequate for purpose in media production and distribution. EuroVOX is a collaborative project of the EBU and several members that aims to break down language boundaries for users and content. It consists of an open framework upon which services can be built, and a set of tools for media creators, such as speech-to-speech translation. Antonio previously worked as Director of Innovation and a Member of the Management Committee at Eutelsat; the European Space Agency; Telespazio, and Selenia Spazio.

Ewelina Jelenkowska-Lucà is Head of Communication Unit and Deputy Director for Policy Strategy and Outreach. A graduate in Law from the University of Lublin (1998) and the Faculty of Law of the Tor Vergata University of Rome (2002), she specialised in European Law at the College of Europe in Natolin. A lawyer at the Lublin Bar Association, she has worked in European institutions since 2003: first at the Court of Justice, and now at the European Commission. At the Commission, she first worked in the Directorate-General for Competition, then she was Deputy Director of the European Commission Representation in Poland and Head of Policy (in particular during the Polish Presidency in the EU Council).

Aki Kekäläinen works as Head of Democracy and Digitalization at Yle News Lab. He is leading teams specializing in the fields of elections and democracy, AI and journalism, and co-operations and experiments. He has a background both in tech and user-centered design of digital services and currently many of his favorite projects are about combining the strengths of humans and AI. He is profoundly interested in the social impacts of technologies like AI, and how public service companies like Yle could and should use new technologies, also from an ethical standpoint."

Pere Vila I Fumás, Doctorate Degree in Telecommunications by Polytechnic University of Catalunya, Master in Business Administration (MBA) by ESADE Barcelona. Director of Technological Strategy at the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE). Member of the Standing Committee of the Telecommunications Advisory Council (Ministry of Science and Technology). Currently chairing the UHD Spain association and member of the Advisory Council for Digital Transformation. He has collaborated in the assessment of the proposals from the Ten Telecom´2000 Programme of the European Commission (Directorate-General Information Society) and as e-Content Reviewer. He has been member of the EBU Technical Committee and the DVB Steering Board.
