After the 2017 London Bridge attack, Valeria Collina, a shocked mother, must come to terms with the loss of her son, who was a jihadist killed in the attack. In the aftermath of the tragedy, she struggles to find peace.

Après l'attentat du London Bridge en 2017, Valeria Collina, une mère choquée, doit accepter la perte de son fils, un djihadiste tué lors de l'attaque. Au lendemain de la tragédie, elle s'efforce de trouver la paix.

La vita di Valeria Collina è sconvolta dalla morte del figlio Youssef, membro di un commando jihadista autore dell'attacco terroristico sul London Bridge nel 2017. Dopo quell'evento, in cui Youssef è stato ucciso dalla polizia, Valeria riflette sul suo passato cercando di trovare la pace con il ricordo di suo figlio.

Davide Rizzo is an Italian director and producer. In 2004 he founds Elenfant Film, with which he realizes innovate works, focusing especially on human rights and collective memory. In 2017 he directs "A Western Movie Without Horses", presented in Biografilm Festival in 2017. The same year he directs a short film, "Anna & Bassam", part of the series "13.11", that he also produced, selected and awarded in many festivals worldwide. He also directed the documentary series Brustulein, and the documentary Old Cinema. Bologna Melodrama, winner of the Arkipel Award and Doc Under 30.

The incredible life story of a Soviet soldier of Tatar descent who was captured by the Nazis during WWII. Today, his daughter Sana is tracing the path of her silent father, trying to understand what made him the man she knew as a child, through his diaries, as well as various personal and public archives and registries. As she accompanies Sana in her journey, filmmaker Aliona van der Horst excavates film archives, to find traces of those millions of Soviet soldiers who were caught in the crossfire of fighting between dictators, who were there but were easily left out of the narrative of the global war.

L'incroyable histoire d'un soldat soviétique d'origine tatare capturé par les nazis pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Aujourd'hui, sa fille Sana retrace le parcours de son père silencieux, essayant de comprendre ce qui a fait de lui l'homme qu'elle a connu enfant, à travers ses journaux intimes, ainsi que diverses archives et registres personnels et publics. Tout en accompagnant Sana dans son périple, la réalisatrice Aliona van der Horst fouille les archives cinématographiques pour retrouver les traces de ces millions de soldats soviétiques qui ont été pris dans le feu croisé des combats entre dictateurs, qui étaient là mais qui ont été facilement laissés de côté dans le récit de la guerre mondiale.

L'incredibile storia di un soldato sovietico di origine tartara catturato dai nazisti durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Oggi, sua figlia Sana sta ripercorrendo il cammino del padre silenzioso, cercando di capire cosa lo ha reso l'uomo che ha conosciuto da bambina, attraverso i suoi diari, nonché vari archivi e registri personali e pubblici. Mentre accompagna Sana nel suo viaggio, la regista Aliona van der Horst scava negli archivi cinematografici, per trovare tracce di quei milioni di soldati sovietici che furono presi nel fuoco incrociato dei combattimenti tra dittatori, che erano lì ma che sono stati lasciati fuori dalla narrazione della guerra mondiale.

An original trio of young characters – imaginative Zosia, sensitive Oskar and independent Kinga – have to enter adulthood earlier than their peers. They take the viewer on a journey to the world of children's compassion, artistic expression, sense of humour and force of character. The world in which friendship, love and closeness to another person is like oxygen, which carries them through the hardest moments.

Un trio original de jeunes personnages – l'imaginative Zosia, le sensible Oskar et l'indépendante Kinga – doivent entrer dans l'âge adulte plus tôt que leurs pairs. Ils emmènent le spectateur dans un voyage dans le monde de la compassion, de l'expression artistique, du sens de l'humour et de la force de caractère des enfants. Un monde dans lequel l'amitié, l'amour et la proximité d'une autre personne sont comme de l'oxygène, qui les porte dans les moments les plus difficiles.

Un originale trio di giovani personaggi – la fantasiosa Zosia, il sensibile Oskar e l'indipendente Kinga – deve entrare nell'età adulta prima dei loro coetanei. I tre accompagnano lo spettatore in un viaggio nel mondo della compassione, dell'espressione artistica, del senso dell'umorismo e della forza di carattere dei bambini. Un mondo in cui l'amicizia, l'amore e la vicinanza ad un'altra persona sono come l'ossigeno che li rinfranca nei momenti più difficili.

Her achievements include several important documentaries. A two-time winner of the Grand Prix at the Krakow Film Festival for her films "Hercules" (2005) and "Entangled" (2012). A Grand Prix winner at: Chicago, New York, Houston, Istanbul, Mexico, Moscow, Banff, Canton and Prague. Duda is a Grand Press laureate for "My Home in Pietrasze" at Prague film festival. She has worked as an independent artist for several years. A member of the Association of Polish Filmmakers, Polish Academy of Film and Polish Documentary Film Directors Guild.

The Jury: This black-and-white film sheds a new light into our lives in the polarised world of today.
