Short Bio
Ken-ichi Imamura is a producer at NHK Enterprises Inc. and the CEO of Studio IMAKEN. He also serves as an advisor for Tokyo Docs, Japan’s leading international documentary industry event, and has been a tutor for the Japan Prize since 2015.
With a career spanning over four decades in public broadcasting, Imamura has played a pivotal role in fostering international co-productions and supporting Asian documentary filmmakers.
He joined NHK in 1983, working as a producer and director on international news and documentary programs. From 2009 to 2012, he served as the series editor for the World Documentary slot on NHK BS. Since 2012, at NHK Enterprises, he has overseen international co-productions, pre-buys, and commissions for documentary projects. He co-founded Tokyo Docs in 2011 and, in 2022, established Studio IMAKEN, a company dedicated to bridging Asia and the world through documentaries.
Imamura has been actively engaged in major international documentary markets and festivals. His expertise in international collaboration and his keen eye for emerging talent have contributed to the global recognition of Asian documentaries.
